Talks have recently come up about making improvements to US 136 going through Colchester and many feel this may be the last time the road will be serviced with the new four-lane expressway Illinois 336 running around the community.
How much of an impact will construction to US 136 in Colchester have on keeping the community going with Illinois 336 running around the town as a bypass?
Do you think people will still be frequent to travel along US 136 going through Colchester?
What will it mean down the road when these repairs need upkeep done again? Will Colchester's stretch of US 136 suffer while Illinois 336 is maintained to facilitate the bypass?

Unless you live in Colchester like I do there probably won't be any reason to use 136 going through here. As far as Colchester being able to keep up the maintenance on this stretch of road I think the condition of the City streets will answer that question.
You could probably raise the water usage price again and maintain some of it.

These are interesting questions. If 136 through Colchester has very little traffic because people use 336 instead, the current repairs and resurfacing will last much longer. Hopefully, there will be many fewer semi-trucks traveling 136 through Colchester. The heavy truck traffic seems to be very damaging to the highway creating more frequent need for repair.
People who need to go to Lake Argyle, to the Scrapbook Nook, to Sugar & Spice, to the banks, the grocery store, the hair salons, gas stations, the post office, Feldo's and other food establishments will continue to travel to Colchester. The scrapbook store and Sugar & Spice have regular customers from outside Colchester who cannot find similar businesses in the area. People will also continue to drive to the schools and the churches. Drivers whose destination is Colchester will have two options now with 136 and 336 both being roads in a good state of repair. Some will bypass the town, but they would not have stopped in town anyway. What would be the value of having their vehicles on 136 creating extra traffic if they would not be stopping at any of the businesses? I highly doubt 336 will cut down on the number of people who come to the annual Labor Day celebration, but it may help with traffic congestion problems.
